The difference between LG OLED C7 and OLED C6
As we have mentioned above, the form of panel is the main difference between them where LG OLED C7 comes with curved panel while OLED C6 comes with curved panel. Nevertheless, the excepting of the aesthetic of curved panel, the impact that resulted doesn’t too affect to the picture quality that produced by them. The other major difference between them is about 3D technology where LG OLED C6 comes with passive 3D technology while OLED C7 is not equipped with 3D technology. The impact that resulted is very clear that is you can enjoy 3D movies on OLED C6 and not with OLED C7. Nevertheless, talking about 3D performance that offered by OLED C6, it is very great. With passive 3D technology behind it, 3D images that produced looks very smooth and clear with tons of depth. In other hand, there is no crosstalk noticeable that certainly will makes you more comfort when enjoying 3D entertainment.
Meanwhile, in addition to 3D technology and the shape of panel as their major differences, there are also some other differences between them which are not too major. One of them is about HDR format that supported by them where OLED C6 support Dolby Vision and HDR 10 only while OLED C7 already support most of popular HDR formats that available including Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), and Advanced HDR by Technicolor. Additionally, LG OLED C7 also features HDR effect technology that allows you to enjoy non HDR contents with the quality close to HDR. On their connectivity, they also have a difference in the number of HDMI ports and Component In where OLED C6 is equipped with 3 HDMI ports and 1 component In while OLED C7 is equipped with 4 HDMI Ports but there is no component in behind it. And the other difference is about their sound equipment where OLED C6 is equipped with 4.0 channel speaker system designed by HarmanKardon with 40 watts total sound output while OLED C7 is equipped with 2.2 channel speaker system also with 40 watts total sound output. As we have mentioned above, the excepting of what caused by the difference between Flat Panel and Curved panel, the picture quality of LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 is identical especially on their black level and contrast. As we know, as parts of OLED TV, both of them can deliver perfect black level and infinite contrast due each of their sub-pixel can switch on/off/dim individually without affected by the condition of other pixel surrounding. Additionally, since each of pixels of OLED TV can emits its own light, they didn’t require backlight. This is like a local dimming on LED TV with the number dimming zones equal to the number of pixels. That’s why OLED TV including LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 can deliver perfect black level. And since black level and contrast are including the most important aspects of picture quality, this course makes the picture displayed on their screen looks absolutely amazing. Blacks look absolutely black and darker color looks more vibrant. This makes detail of images in dark screen looks very clear and natural even used in a dark room. Additionally, regardless the format of HDR, this also makes HDR picture looks amazing without any issue on contrast and black level.
Otherwise, peak brightness that is reached by LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 is also very bright for OLED TV. This might not as bright as what reached by premium LED TV like X930E or Samsung SUHD TV KS series or even still below 1000 nits as the minimum recommendation of HDR 10 for LED TV. Nevertheless, what reached by LG OLED C6 and OLED C7 is still brighter than 550 nits as the minimum recommendation of HDR 10 for OLED TV. As we know, the peak brightness recommendation of HDR 10 for OLED TV and LED TV is different. Since both of them have bright peak brightness, bright picture produced by them can fight the glare when used in a room with normal light. This makes their HDR performance is great. As long as you don’t use both of them in an extremely bright room, HDR picture displayed look very amazing without any issue on peak brightness. Meanwhile, compare between them, LG OLED C7 series as newer model reach a bit brighter peak brightness than OLED C7. This course makes its HDR performance is slight better particularly when used in a bright room.
Talking about their color performance, color of the picture displayed on their screen looks very saturated. This is due both of them already support wide color gamut eve can deliver about 95% of DCI P3 color space. This exceeds 90% of DCI P3 color space that required for displaying HDR 10 video fully and this certainly is very great. The result, no matter they are displaying SDR or HDR contents, color looks very accurate that makes the picture looks more realistic. Still about color performance, both of them also already support 10 bit depth of color. This means both of them can deliver about 1.07 billion shades of color. The result, color gradient of the picture displayed on each if their screen look very smooth. A bit banding might be still noticeable in a darker color, but this is not too major so we can ignore about that.
Overall, both of them offer similar picture quality with deep black level, strong contrast, bright peak brightness, and very saturated color. Nevertheless, as we have discussed above, a bit difference is about HDR format that supported by them. Additionally, HDR effect also allows you to enjoy non HDR contents to near HDR quality on the screen of LG OLED C7, while OLED C6 is not equipped with this feature.
The advantage, you can enjoy amazing picture quality displayed on their screen not only from center and in front of their screen. As mentioned, because OLED TV doesn’t use backlight, this makes both of them has wide viewing angle. So, no matter the angle you are watching from, the picture displayed on each of their screen will look consistently amazing, even it is better than LED TV with IPS panel that indeed is maximized for side viewing angle. The benefit, when each of them is used in a wide room where there are viewers come from multiple viewing angle, they will get the best viewing.
Meanwhile, LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 are also equipped with great performance of UHD Up-scaling engine called Tru 4K Up-Scaler. The result, regardless the resolution of video source, this allows you to enjoy then with the quality close to 4K quality. Even lower resolution video like DVDs movies with 480p resolution still look clear and sharp on their screen with small details still preserved well. Let alone for higher resolution like 720p movies or 1080p movies, the final image resulted certainly is sharper and clearer with a lot of more small details that preserved.
Winner: LG OLED C7 (particularly when displaying HDR video)
Motion Blur and 24p Playback
The other advantage of OLED TV including LG OLED C6 and OLED C7 is about their pixel response time. As we know, OLED TV has far faster pixel response time than LED TV. Since both of them have low pixel response time, of course this will make the picture that displayed looks very smooth and clear when they are displaying fast moving objects like sports program or fast action movies. Unlike LED TV where a trail following fast moving objects is often seen even for the best LED TV, on their screen, the trail following fast moving objects is almost no noticeable. While both of OLED C7 and OLED C6 offer similar performance when displaying fast moving images, when displaying 24p movies, they offer different performance, especially when the source is 24p via 60p signal like movies from streaming media. You need to know, regardless the source, LG OLED C7 can display 24p movies with judder-free while judder can be removed completely if the source is 24p movies from Blu-Ray or 24p via 60i signals like movies from satellite TV. Meanwhile, when the source is 24p via 60p signal like movies from streaming media, LG OLED C6 cannot completely remove the judder. Nevertheless, because most of the people don’t notice about judder, of course this is not a serious issue for OLED C6.
Winner: OLED C7
As we have discussed above, one of the difference between LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 is about the number of their HDMI ports and the availability of Component IN. LG OLED C6 comes with 3 HDMI Ports and there is 1 Component IN behind it, while OLED C7 is equipped with 4 HDMI Ports but there is no Component IN. While talking about the ability of their HDMI ports, both of them are identical where they are support HDCP 2.2, CEC, Audio return Channel, and more. Meanwhile, the excepting of HDMI and Component In, both of them are equipped with the same inputs outputs. There are 3 USB Ports, 1 AV In, 1 Antenna In (Terrestrial), 1 Ethernet, and 1 Digital Audio Out (optical). A bit different is about the input lag of their HDMI ports. Overall, input lag of LG OLED C7 is lower than OLED C6. This means OLED C7 is better and more comfortable when used for playing any kind of games. Nevertheless, since input lag of LG OLED C6 is also low, playing a game with OLED C6 certainly also feel responsive, even for fast paced games. But of course, this certainly is not as responsive as OLED C7.
Winner: OLED C7
Essentially, both of them feature the same smart TV platform that is WebOS operating system. The difference between them is about their version where LG OLED C7 comes with 3.5 version while OLED C6 comes with 3.0 version. As a newer model, WebOS 3.5 certainly come with some updates and upgrades especially on the hardware that should make its performance is better and more responsive than WebOS 3.0. Meanwhile, about the layout and user interface, there are not many differences where it is designed simple and easy to use. This also makes the navigation between different menus is easy and straightforward. Meanwhile about apps provided, there are also not many differences. Apps which are provided by them are very complete and diverse. There are most popular apps like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and many more. Additionally, there are also light and responsive web browser, screen mirroring, games, and many more. That is not less interesting is about LG’s content store where you can download tons of apps, contents, and games from your LG TV.
The most interesting of LG Smart TV is about their controller where both of them are equipped with the same remote control named “LG Magic Remote”. One of the most useful functionality is about point and click where it can function like a mouse on your PC. To open an app, you just need point an app that you want to open and click the “click” button on the remote. As we have discussed a lot above, the major differences between LG OLED C7 and OLED C6 is about their panel shape and 3D technology where LG OLED C6 comes with curved panel and passive 3D technology while OLED C7 comes with flat panel and is not equipped with 3D technology. The other difference, OLED C7 as a newer model comes with some additional features like HDR effect or others and support more HDR format. Meanwhile, talking about its picture quality, the excepting what caused by the difference between curved and flat panel, they are similar, even for their motion handling, UHD Up-scaling performance, and about their wide viewing angle. A bit advantage of OLED C7 than OLED C6 is about the number HDMI ports and lower input lag but in other hand, it is not equipped with Component Input.
So, which is a better choice between them? If your main consideration is about picture quality and the features that offered, of course LG OLED C7 as a newer model is a better choice. It comes with some new features and some advantage than OLED C6. But even so, when I was writing this comparison, OLED C7 is sold about hundreds dollar more expensive than OLED C6 for both 55 Inch and 65 inch, so you must spend more money to get OLED C7 or you wait until its price drops a bit. Meanwhile, if the price also becomes your main consideration, OLED C6 is also a good choice for you. In addition to its picture quality is not too far adrift to OLED C7, it also comes with 3D technology and curved panel. Nevertheless, if you don’t like curved panel, there is also OLED B6 series that comes with flat panel and offers similar performance to OLED C6 but without 3D technology. Now, the decision comes back to you according to your budget and preferences. However, before you decide to choose one of them, there are a lot of opinions from each of their real customers where you can make as your further consideration.
