The Difference between Samsung MU7000 and MU6300
As we see on comparison table above, there are not many differences between Samsung MU6300 and MU7000. Features and technologies behind them are almost the same. The major difference between them is about their backlight technology where Samsung MU7000 comes with Edge Lit Backlight while MU6300 comes with Direct LED backlight. This makes MU6300 offers a bit better black uniformity than MU7000. But on the other hand, in term of contrast and grey uniformity, MU7000 offers a bit better performance.
Samsung MU6300 vs MU7000 Performance
Although Samsung MU7000 offers a bit stronger contrast and better grey uniformity while MU6300 offers better black uniformity, but this difference is not too significant to make a big impact on the quality of the picture produced by them. Overall, both of them offer good movies experience due their strong contrast and black uniformity, particularly when set in a dark room. Even contrast and black level reached by them is darker than 0.05 nits of black level as the minimum recommendation for displaying HDR 10 fully. This means when inputted by HDR signal, their black level is dark enough to reveal the shadow details. The result, dark scenes looks excellently with details of images looks clearly like what intended by HDR technology itself. This certainly makes dark scenes looks very natural on the screen of MU7000 and MU8500.
Meanwhile, peak brightness reached by Samsung MU6300 and MU7000 is also similar that is about 360 nits. Not too bright, but quite bright to make bright scenes looks well when set in a dark room or a moderately lit room. Additionally, peak brightness reached by them is also bright enough to makes the highlight of HDR images look bright, particularly when set in dark room. But unfortunately, when set in extremely bright room, their peak brightness is not bright enough to effectively fight the glare. Although both of Samsung MU6300 and MU7000 are supported by the same technology that is 4K Color Drive Pro, but in this case, MU7000 can deliver far wider color gamut than MU6300. This is due MU7000 already supports wide color gamut while MU6300 doesn’t yet. When they are displaying SDR contents that only require Rec.709 color space, both of them might be equally able to properly show the colors of the images, but when they are displaying HDR contents that need at least 90% of DCI P3 color space or wide color gamut, in here MU7000 shows its advantage. Although it cannot show fully saturated red, green, and blur, and also not as good as high end TVs, but at least, the color of the HDR picture displayed on the screen of MU7000 still looks accurate overall. Meanwhile, for MU6300, color gamut produced by it might be still able to display most colors of HDR images properly, but most of deep colors will look de-saturated. This means, not all colors of HDR images can be showed properly by MU6300, particularly deeper colors, while when showing brighter color, it is fairly accurate. But even so, overall, color of the picture produced by MU6300 is good for its class.
Meanwhile, when processing 10 bit depth of color of HDR images, both Samsung MU6300 and MU7000 equally offer good performance. Color gradient of the picture displayed on their screen looks equally smooth without any major color banding. Some imperfections might still be a bit noticeable in darker shades of color, but overall, their color gradient is great and quite enough to makes color gradient of HDR images looks smooth like what intended.
The other great performance that offered by Samsung MU6300 and MU7000 is about the performance of their UHD Up-scaling. This is still very important considering not all of contents that available in the market are mastered in 4K resolution. With great performance of their UHD Up-scaling engine, this allows you to enjoy lower resolution videos with the quality close to 4K quality, even for SD 480p videos like DVD movies, the final images in 4K resulted look sharp with details are preserved well. And the higher resolution of the sources like HD movies or Blur Ray movies, the final images produced certainly will looks sharper with details of images looks very clear.
Since both of Samsung MU7000 and MU6300 use VA panel, this certainly makes their side viewing angle coverage is poor. Started at 20 degrees off center and front, color will shift and contrast will degraded that makes the quality of the picture looks deteriorate. Nevertheless, this is not to disturb your comfort when enjoying your favorite sport program or other fast moving images. Meanwhile, when playing 24p movies, performance of Samsung MU7000 and MU6300 is not so good. Both of them cannot completely remove the judder, even when the source is native 24p videos like Blu-Ray movies. And of course, when displaying 24p contents via 60i/60p signals like movies from satellite TV or streaming media, the judder also cannot be removed completely. Fortunately, most of people don’t sensitive to judder, so this certainly is also not a major issue for both.
