Let’s start to discuss about their picture quality because it certainly is the main consideration of the people when they want to buy TV. Started from type of panel, each of them come with different panel type, Samsung UN60KS8000 comes with VA Panel while LG 60UH8500 comes with IPS panel. As the impact, 60UH8500 offers much better viewing angle but contrast reached is not as strong as what offered by UN60KS8000. With the all technology behind them, Samsung UN60KS8000 can reach about 0.016 nits of black level while LG 60UH8500 can reach about 0.082 nits of black level. In other hand, peak brightness reached by UN60KS8000 is about 1450 nits while 60UH8500 only can reach about 550 nits of peak brightness. This means in term of contrast, UN60KS800 is much superior to 60UH8500 that course has a big impact on the HDR picture quality produced by them. While we know, the minimum standardization of Ultra HD Premium is 0.05 nits of black level and 1000 nits of peak brightness.

HDR vs SR

Moving on color performance, both of them are the same powered by quantum dot technology which is expected to cover wide color gamut. The result, Samsung UN60KS8000 can cover more than 95% of CI P3 color space while LG 60UH85000 cover more about 90% of DCI P3 Color space. This means the color delivered by UN60KS8000 can cover wider range of color gamut than 60UH8500 though booth them meet the minimum color gamut needed by HDR 10 contents.  Additionally, although both of them support 10 bit depth of color, color gradient that offered by UN60KS8000 also looks slight smoother than what offered by 60UH8500.

10 bit vs 8 bit deth of color

With display specs that offered by them, we can see Samsung UN60KS8000 is compliant with Ultra HD Premium specification while LG 60UH8500 is not. This means you can watch HDR 10 contents fully on the screen of UN60KS8000 but not for 60UH8500. With other word, in term of picture quality, UN60KS8000 is superior to 60UH8500 no matter it is on HDR or non HDR quality. But in other hand, LG 60UH8500 also already support Dolby Vision that means you can enjoy HDR 10 or Dolby Vision Contents on its screen although without full quality. Viewing Angle

Maybe the use of IPS panel can reduce black level and peak brightness reached, but in other side it offers wider range of viewing angle. So, if on VA TV like UN65KS8000, the quality of the picture look to deteriorate started at 20 degrees off center and front, LG 60UH8500 with IPS panel offers much wider. Maybe it is not as great as OLED TV that offers perfect viewing angle, so the quality of the picture still begin to deteriorate at extreme viewing angle. But at least, what offered by 60UH8500 is much better than what offered by Samsung UN65KS8000. The benefit, you will easier to get the best viewing when locate your seat on your room.

But even so, what offered by UN65KS800 is still above average. Additionally, when they are controlling 24p contents like Blu Ray movies or 24p contents via 60i signals, both of them do the same good job. But even so, when they are playing 24p contents via 60p contents like the movies from streaming media, Samsung seem does a better job,. You will see judder-free on the screen of UN65KS8000 while on the screen of 60UH8500, the judder cannot be removed completely.

Winner : 60UH8500

UHD Up-Scaling

Maybe it is not a major thing that should be considered when buying 4K TV, but at least its role is still very important considering most of the video contents that available in the market still have lower resolution than 4K. Additionally, streaming native 4K contents directly also requires a very large bandwidth. Samsung UN65KS8000 and LG 60UH8500 are equipped with the same great up scaling engine. The result, DVD movies with 480p resolution is up-scaled to near 4K TV smoothly without loss a lot of details. The better result is produced when the source is 720p like from Cable/Satellite HD TV. And when the source is Blu-Ray contents with 1080p resolution, the result looks really sharp and smooth without loss any small details.

But separated from their difference, 3D performance that offered by 60UH8500 is really great, moreover it comes with passive 3D technology that is more comfortable for eyes. 3D images produced looks very clear and sharp with very noticeable depth of 3D image. Additionally, there is also no flicker and crosstalk noticeable like on active 3D TV. The other advantages, its 3D glasses are cheaper, lighter, battery-free, and more comfortable to use. A slight downside, each of eyes only can receive a half of resolution. But because it is only a trick of the eye, we will assume the 3D we saw was full resolution.

Winner : 60UH8500

Sound quality

Basically, both of them are equipped with 2.1 channels speaker system with built-in woofer and 40 watts total speaker power. Although we can see on comparison table above LG 60UH8500 comes with 2 channel woofer, but the number of woofer’s channel is not too influential. But the advantage of 60UH8500, its audio sound is designed by HarmanKardon, a big name in premium audio system.  But even so, sound quality offered by each of them is not too much different. For slim LED TVs, sound quality offered by them is impressive and above average. But overall, LG 60UH8500 offers slight better sound quality than Samsung UN60KS8000, particularly on harmonic distortion. But nevertheless, this audio equipment is installed on slim TV so the resonance chamber for the speaker certainly inadequate. So, for better experience on sound quality, both of them still need an addition external sound bar.

Winner : 60UH8500

This means, UN60KS8000 is better for video games that need quick input lag. But even so, this doesn’t mean LG 60UH8500 is not great for video games. Its input lag is still above average, but slower than UN60KS8000.
