LG OLED65B6P vs OLED65C6P Review
LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P are parts of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup. Unlike E6 and G6 series, it doesn’t come with “Picture on Glass” design. In the market, they are sold with much cheaper price than E6 and G6 series but with not much loss in image quality than them. C6 series including OLED65C6P is the only model of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup that comes with curved panel while B6 series including OLED65B6P is the only model that comes without 3D technology. But overall, separated from the differences about 3D and panel type, all models of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup offer virtually identical display specs.
In the market, both LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P are sold with the price that is not much different even same that is about $3500. Of course this price is not fixed and could still change at any time. With the differences features that offered by each but with the same price, of course this makes we confuse to choose between them. So, which is a better choice between them? Let’s discuss one by one about each of their features.

The Differences between LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P
As we see on the comparison table above, there are two major difference and minor difference between LG OLED65B6P. The major differences are about the Type Panel and 3D Technology while the major difference is about the number of HDMI Ports. Lets we discuss one by one about the differences what the impact resulted.
Type of Panel
The fist difference between LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P is about their curved panel where 65OLEDB6P comes with flat panel while 65OLEDC6P comes with curved panel. Although it is debatable, the curved panel claimed can provide wider range of viewing angle than flat panel. The Companies most heavily promoting about curved panel is Samsung where they released two versions for each series curved and flat panel but still with the same specs and features. Let’s just curved panel delivers wider side viewing angle than flat panel, is this effective applied on OLED TV. You need to know, OLED TV with flat panel already delivers perfect viewing angle. It is caused it doesn’t used backlighting. As we know, the use of backlighting on LED TV especially Edge Lit backlight makes contrast and color deteriorate from side viewing angle. But because OLED has self-lighting pixel and no backlight, the contrast and color will looks consistent even from extremely side viewing angle. So, the use of curved panel on OLED TV for the purpose of improving side viewing angle certainly is something useless. This means both of OLED65C6P and OLED65E6P offer the same perfect side viewing angle though both of them come with different panel type.
In other side, curved panel also makes the picture looks bigger. This may a real benefit of OLED65C6P than OLED65B6P caused by their differences on panel type. With a wider angle to the line of sight on side of panel, with certain sight distance, picture on curved panel with looks slight bigger than on flat panel. As the example, with the sight distance about 8 feet, the picture on 55 inch curved panel will like on 55.8 inch flat panel. I think this difference is not too significant. But fortunately, OLED65C6P and OLED56B6P are sold with the same price. If like the competitor where with the same specification, TV with curved panel is about $200 more expensive than flat panel, of course this is not comparable with the benefits that offered.
The other major difference between them is about 3D technology where OLED65B6P is equipped with passive 3D technology while there is no 3D technology behind OLED65C6P. This difference is very clear so we don’t need discuss further about their difference. But separated from their differences, 3D performance that offered by LG OLED65C6P is very great. With Cinema 3D based on passive 3D technology, 3D images produced looks very clear and smooth. Additionally, the depth of 3D images is also very noticeable on their glass. The benefit, there is no flickers and judder even if you watch 3D movies on dark room. The other benefits of passive 3D is also about their glasses, where they are sold cheaper, lighter and more comfort to use than active 3D glasses. But on passive 3D, each of eyes only can receive half resolution of 3D images and of course this becomes a shortcoming of passive 3D where on active 3D, each of eyes can receive full resolution of 3D images.
The other difference between LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P is about the number of HDMI ports. This difference certainly is not major because doesn’t big impact on their overall performance. As we see on comparison table above, LG OLED65C6P is equipped with 3 HDMI Ports, 1 port fewer than OLED65B6P or other model of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup that comes with 4HDMI ports. On OLED65C6P, this will cause problem if your HD Devices is more than 3. You certainly can change from one to another device, but of course this is very inconvenient. The excepting of the number HDMI ports, both of them are equipped with the same connectivity. There are 3 USB Ports, Composite in, Component in, RF, Ethernet, RS 232, and Digital out (optical) where the number of each is 1 port.
The excepting of what discussed above, LG 65OLEDC6P and OLED65B6P offer similar performance and features. And as an OLED TV, of course picture quality becomes the flagship of both, furthermore both of them support two HDR formats at once, HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. As we know, HDR becomes a main campaign of 4K TVs in 2016.So, how the HDR performance that offered by them?
Because OLED has self-lighting pixels that means each of pixels can turn on/off or dimmed individually, this allows OLED TV including OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P deliver perfect black level. This is understandable because status on/off or dimmed of each pixel is not affected by the condition of other pixel surrounding. As comparison, LED TVs with many zones of local dimming delivers strong black level, moreover for OLED TV with pixel dimming or local dimming per pixel, so it is not surprising if both of them also offer perfect black level. And with perfect black level, this certainly allows it delivers infinite contrast ratio. As we know, contrast is the ratio between peak brightness and black level. Otherwise, both of LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P can reach about 650 nits of peak brightness on 2% window. For OLED TV, this course is very bright. Then, what to do with all this?
As mentioned, both of LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P is powered by Perfect Mastering Engine that support two HDR format at once, HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. Of course, each of this HDR formats has certain standardization that should be meet by a HDR TV. HDR 10 set 0.0005 nits of black level and 540 nits of peak brightness as standardization of contrast range that should be met by 4K TVs. While Dolby Vision set higher contrast range that is 0 to 10.000 nits of peak brightness with current target 4000 nits. This means HDR 10 contents of Dolby Vision contents are mastered in this contrast range. And for displaying them fully, of course the display specs of 4K TVs should meet these standardization. With black level and peak brightness reached by both of them, of course they compliant with HDR 10 in term of contrast. But for Dolby Vision, this certainly is still far especially about peak brightness. But because Dolby Vision is HDR format for future, this course becomes their own advantages of OLED65B6P or OLED65C6P.
Moving on color performance, HDR 10 by UHD Alliance or Dolby Vision also set certain standardization. HDR 10 set more than 90% of DCI P3 color space with 10 bit panel while Dolby Vision Set Rec.2020 color coverage with 12 bit panel. According to trusted unofficial site, both of LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P can cover more than 94% of DCI P3 Color space and also support 10 bit depth of color. 10 bit panel means the can deliver more than 1 billion shades of color. Seen from the specification, what delivered by both of them meet the minimum standardization of HDR 10 but not for Dolby Vision.
With all display specs delivered by LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P, both of them compliant with Ultra HD Premium Certification set by UHD Alliance. This means they can display HDR10 contents stunningly without any issues in contrast or color. Additionally, although display specs delivered by them has not met the minimum standardization of Dolby Vision, but Dolby Vision picture displayed on each of their screen still looks amazing or at least, it offers better quality than LED TVs that also supports Dolby Vision like Vizio P series or LG SUHD TV lineup. And certainly not only HDR images that displayed stunningly on each of the screen, SDR contents also looks amazing on their screen.
The performance of LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P when handling motion blur is also perfect. There are not motion blur noticeable when they are displaying fast moving images like video games or sport. The responsive time of pixel when change color is very quick that is about 0.1 ms, much faster than LED TVs. The perfect performance is also shown when they play 24p contents like Blu Ray movies or 24p contents via 60i signals like from Satellite or Cable TV. This means absolute judder free. But unfortunately, there is a little problem when they play 24p contents from streaming devices or via 60p signals. The judder cannot be eliminated completely.
Moving on UHD Up-scaling Engine, both LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P are powered by Tru 4K Upscaler when they are up-scaling full HD 1080p contents or lower to 4K quality. And the performance is really superb. No matter your video sources are SD 480p, HD 720p, or full HD 1080p, all of them displayed clearly and very details on each of their screen. But of course, the result for each source is not same. This mean the higher the source resolution, the result is better. This certainly is still very important considering not all of video contents that available in the market or provided by video contents provider like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and others are mastered in 4K resolution.
The key feature of attractive smart TV offered by LG OLED65E6P and OLED65B6P is WebOS 3.0. It is the third version of WebOS since it first released in 2014. Some issues on previous version like poor streaming ability have been fixed in this version. But in term of user interface, there is no much change. To collect your favorite apps or program, they are organized on strip bar across the bottom of the screen. The interesting, now their 4K streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Video, and others can play HDR 10 or Dolby Vision Contents. You need to know, Netflix, Amazon, and other big Content Providers has announced to fully support HDR 10 and Dolby Vision and immediately completes their collections with HDR 10 or Dolby Vision Contents. And in addition to apps that used for streaming 4K contents purpose, there are still many other interesting apps and features offered by WebOS 3.0 like Web browser, LG Content Store, Magic Zoo, Mobil Magic Connection, and many more.
That is not less important certainly about their LG Magic Remote where as we know, it provides a lot of useful functions which will be facilitate us in operating smart TV apps, surfing in the internet, or controlling TV functions. One of the useful functions is “Point and Click” where it has function like mouse on your desktop or notebook. Additionally, there is also Voice Navigation and many other useful functions.
The perfect performance on picture and excellent WebOS 3.0 is also followed by impressive audio sound. As we see on comparison table above, both of LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P is equipped with 4.0 channel speaker system with total power 40 watts. The great, its audio sound is designed by Harman Kardon, a big name of premium audio system manufacturers. This makes sound quality delivered by both is great for TV and above average. The high and middle frequency is heard clearly. But unfortunately, they are not equipped with built-in woofer that course makes its low frequency or bass sounded less steady. Overall, sound quality offered by them is very impressive for TV but doesn’t quite enough to match what offered by stand alone sound bar. So, to get the best experience of 4K entertainment with impressive sound quality, the addition a standalone sound bar is highly recommended.
As we have discussed a lot above, type of Panel and 3D technology are the major differences between LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C6P in addition to there is also minor difference between them about the number of HDMI. But even so, although OLED65C6P comes with curved panel while LED65B6P comes with flat panel, but the impact on overall picture quality is not to significant whether it is about viewing angle, contrast, color, HDR quality. The real impact is the picture looks slight bigger on the screen of OLED65C6P that comes with curved panel than OLED65B6P with flat panel. About 3D, their difference is very clear s we don’t need to discuss more.
So, which is a better choice between them? As mentioned, in the market both LG OLED65C6P and OLED65B6P are sold with the same price about $3500. With the performance that offered by each, in my personal opinion, I prefer to choose OLED65C6P than OLED65B6P. Why is that? 3D technology is my main consideration as the advantage of OLED65C6P than OLED65B6P. But of course each person has a different opinion. Is your opinion same with my opinion?
