Sony XBR65X930D vs XBR65X850D Review
Sony XBR65X930D and XBR65X850D are part of Sony’s 2016 4K HDR LED TV lineup. Like most of 4K TVs that released in 2016, both of them also support HDR (High Dynamic Range). In the market, both of these Sony 65 Inch X930D and X850D are sold with very significant difference in price where XBR65X930D as a higher series is sold more expensive. The primary difference between them is about 3D technology where XBR65X930D is powered by active 3D technology while for XBR65X850D, there is no 3D technology behind it. In addition 3D technology, of course, there are some others differences that makes they sold with significant difference in price. There are three major differences between Sony XBR65X930D and XBR65X850D that has big impact on each of their performance includes 3D technology, X-tended Dynamic Range and Panel Type. XBR65X930D comes with 3D technology and X-Tended Dynamic Range while there are no both technologies behind XBR65X850D. While about panel type, XB65X850D comes with IPS panel while XBR65X930D comes with VA Panel. The impact? Let’s discuss one by one.
About 3D technology, their difference is very clear, XBR65X930D comes with active 3D technology while XBR65X850d is without 3D technology. Otherwise, VA panel offers brighter peak white and deeper black level but in other hand, it side viewing angle is limited. The only advantage of XBR65X850D is about viewing angle where it offers much wider viewing angle than XBR65X930D. Otherwise, for peak brightness, Sony XBR65X850D only can reach 422 nits of peak brightness on 2% window while XBR65X930D can reach 1054 nits of peak brightness. You need to know, to get Ultra HD certification, UHD Alliance has set 1000 nits of peak brightness that must be reached by 4K HDR TVs.
From this statistic, we can conclude that XBR65X940D meet the standardization set by UHD alliance for peak brightness and black level while XBR65X850D doesn’t. With other words, in displaying HDR contents, X930D series does its job much better than X850D series. But even so, although not the best, for a fellow IPS TV, the performance that offered by XBR65X850D can be said great.
The audio system of Sony XBR65X930D and XBR65X850D is also different. XBR65X850D is equipped with 2 channel speaker system with 20 watts total power while XBR65X930D is powered by 4 channel speaker system with total power 30 watts. The result, of course XBR65X930D offers slight better audio performance than XBR65X850D. But because there is no built woofer behind them, the performance of both in low frequency or bass is minimal.
